BIOGRAPHY

Richard H Dobeck is an active orchestral clarinetist in Los Angeles and the Central Coast. Prior to joining the San Bernardino Symphony, he has been regularly performing with the American Youth Symphony, the San Luis Obispo Symphony, the Lompoc Pops Orchestra, and Opera San Luis Obispo.

After completing his Bachelors of Music at the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, he received his Artist Diploma at the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Glenn Gould School in Toronto, Canada. During his studies, he was a member of the Conservatory Chamber Players of the Glenn Gould School, and a member of the Tiburon Quintet, the winners of the Glenn Gould School’s annual chamber music competition in 2016. Recently, he has joined the Neptune Reeds Quintet, who have rehearsed and recorded regularly during the pandemic. Richard was a student at the Idyllwild Arts Academy summer programs throughout his teenage years, and returned for three summers to work as a Teaching Assistant.

Richard is also an avid lover of yoga, meditation, and the Alexander Technique. He is hopeful that he can continue to deepen his understanding and mastery of these fields, and be able to incorporate them into his teaching. He believes he can help musicians and non-musicians improve their quality of life through regular practice of these interests.
