SBSOTV Episode 1: E Pluribus Unum (Out of Many, One)

“E Pluribus Unum" (Out of Many, One) is the official US motto which appears on the seal of the United States, as well as all of our coins. This is a parallel for how we are going to accomplish the daunting feat of uniting our orchestra at a time where they have to remain separated due to strict covid restrictions.

The repertoire showcases the various sections of the orchestra. Our brass section opens with Paul Dukas's brilliant Fanfare from La Peri. SBSO Principal Flute, Patricia Cloud and guest Harpist Ellie Choate perform Bach's Ave Maria. We feature renowned soprano, Holly Sedillos on famous arias by Puccini and Handel.

Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the theatrical release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, our woodwind section performs John Williams virtuosic cue - Nimbus 2000. We pay tribute to the late George Walker, the first African American man to win the Pulitzer Prize in Music.

Covid-safe dance will also be a part of the performance of Ave Maria, Premiere Arabesque, and Die Bänkelsängerlieder with original choreography by Jonathan Sharp. The dancers originate with the Idyllwild Dance Academy and represent the best in upcoming talent. They include Brandon Binkly, Emiko Flanagan, Enoch Grubb, Alexa Kernan, Sofia Rochin, Charlotte Weymer, and Abbey Wyrrick.

The concert will conclude with a patriotic flourish. “And here’s where the concept comes most fully alive,” stated Maestro Parnther, “because of Covid restrictions, we had to separate the sections of the orchestra in order to keep our musicians safe. But with the magic of technology, we will reunite our entire symphony for our grand finale in which, out of many musicians in different places recording at different times, we will have one amazing and uplifting performance of America the Beautiful.”
