SBSG Fundraising Programs: 2011 Music Home Tour

On November 13, the Symphony Guild held its annual Musical Home Tour, with proceeds benefiting the Symphony's "Music in the Schools" programs. Four beautifully restored residences in San Bernardino were on display for the tour. They included the San Bernardino Historical Association's Heritage House, the lovely home of David and Mary Beth Grindahl, The Rezek Center (originally built as a convent), and the newly-restored 1929 California ranch-style home of Alan and Barbara Williams. Visitors enjoyed musical entertainment at each location as well as docent-led tours and refreshments.

We've included a few pictures from the day's festivities below. Click here to view the entire photo album on Facebook.

Many thanks to everyone who made this year's Musical Home Tour a rousing success!

Music Home TourFour beautifully restored residences in San Bernardino will be on display, including the California ranch home of Alan and Barbara Williams located at 5696 Arden. The home was built in 1929 on land that was originally homestead property for the area. After fire destroyed much of the house five years ago, the Williams rebuilt it, carefully bringing it back to its original early ranch-style beauty and charm.

With a vineyard and orange grove in the front yard, the home is the next best thing to visiting the Ponderosa of “Bonanza” fame. A boutique of "Members Pleasures"--homemade crafts and bakery items will also be available for purchase at this home.

The home of Merry Beth and David Grindahl, 655 North Road, was first built in 1938 and purchased by the couple 25 years ago. Over these years it has become a “work in progress for cabinet maker, David, and master quilter, Merry Beth.” They have truly created a home of beauty and efficiency with a “place for everything and everything in its place.

San Bernardino Historical Association’s Heritage House, 796 No. D St., is a faithfully restored Queen Anne-style home built in 1891. The home and the Christian R. Harris Memorial Hall next door form an amazing look at early San Bernardino life. These structures also tell the story of determination and perseverance by members of the San Bernardino Historical Association who moved and restored the home and gathered authentic furnishings and other artifacts to enhance the story it tells.

The Rezek Center, located at 2101 Waterman Ave., next to St. Bernardine Medical Center is the fourth residence on the Home Tour. Originally a convent built by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, it was completed in 1930 and was the inaugural building on the hospital grounds. The convent has been beautifully restored by Ronald R. Rezek in honor of his parents and grandparents and is now a Conference, Education and Retreat Center.

All proceeds from the Home Tour benefit the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra and Guild's Music and Musicians in the Schools programs. Music director and conductor, Carlo Ponti, Jr., as well as orchestra musicians and docents from the Guild visit approximately 8500 students in the Inland Empire area each year, bringing symphonic music to youngsters who may be unfamiliar with it.
